Verena Paepcke-Hjeltness, Assistant Professor of Industrial Design, will show you the essentials of Sketchnoting, a way of creative non-linear visual notetaking, visual planning, and reflection. This pattern-based notetaking strategy combines words and images, treating the space of a page as an open canvas. It actively engages learners by fostering listening through visual synthesis and has shown to increase learning engagement and knowledge retention.
Participants will learn the basics of Sketchnoting in the first session and start building their own simple image libraries in the second session. In the final session participants will apply sketchnoting to think and work through visualizing e.g., their syllabi, course planning, study notes, or by creating a visual reflection sketchnote.
No artistic talent is required. You will leave this session with concrete ways to break linear thinking barriers for yourself and your students.
***This 3-Part Series meets on the following Wednesdays from 11-11:45 a.m. in 2030 Morrill: January 26th, and February 2nd and 16th .
