The artist will complete up to two portraits a day, for a total of thirteen by the end of her 9-day residency at Iowa State University. Portrait sitters were identified by various ISU colleges and University Museums and will join the nineteen Faces of Iowa State portraits painted by Frantzen during the run of the 2016 Iowa State Fair. The entire group of portraits will make up the Faces of Iowa State touring exhibition which will launch at the Brunnier Art Museum in late August 2017 and continue to sites throughout the state of Iowa.
About the Portrait Subject
Kathy Howell (B.S. '68 mathematics), originally from Crescent, Iowa, retired from an extensive career at IBM as a programmer, manager and executive. Along with her husband, John, the Erie, Colorado based couple underwrote the University Museums' new website and online collection database engine eMuseum in 2015-16 allowing global access to Iowa State's 30,000 art objects. Howell is a Curator's Associates lifetime member, former Chair of the University Museums Advancement Council, and is a lifetime member of the Alumni Association. Howell was elected an ISU Foundation Governor in 2004 and currently serves on the Board of Directors and as the Audit Committee Chair. Howell continues to give substantially of her time, talents, and financial resources for the betterment of Iowa State and University Museums.
