The symposium will be focused on developing and nurturing future "George Washington Carver" students through an integrated vision of recruiting and retaining diverse students in the agricultural sciences.
Speakers include:
-- Tom Vilsack, United States Secretary of Agriculture
-- Steven Leath, Iowa State University president
-- Andrew Manu, Iowa State University George Washington Carver Endowed Chair and Professor of agronomy
-- Walter Hill, Tuskegee University provost
-- Paul Schickler, DuPont Pioneer president
During the morning session Iowa State students and faculty will share research poster presentations focused on agricultural and related sciences, the social sciences, youth development, gender studies and race relations. If you know of someone who would like to participate in the poster session, please direct them to the registration address.
A panel discussion in the afternoon will focus on developing and nurturing future "George Washington Carver" students through an integrated vision of recruiting and retaining diverse students in agricultural sciences. An evening reception, dinner and performance by Paxton Williams will conclude the day. Williams is an Iowa State alum who performs a one-man play depicting the life of Carver.
