"I don't like going to the class...the other students, the professor...I don't feel like I belong there." Could this quote be from a student in your class? The multicultural student population is increasing at most institutions across the U.S., while their retention and graduation rates have historically been lower than their majority peers.

To address this disparity, this CIRTL Coffee Hour will take a look at the learning environment for multicultural students. These seminars will prepare you to better understand and address racial dynamics in the classroom with a focus on the student voice. We will discuss issues from a global, local, and individual perspective, assisting you to create a more inclusive environment. As a part of the Coffee Hour we will focus on three different populations: Men of Color, Latino/a Students, and African American students. Facilitated by Crist?bal Salinas Jr., Denise Williams, and LeQuetia N. Ancar.

What is CIRTL (Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning)? The CIRTL mission is to enhance excellence in undergraduate education through the development of a national faculty committed to implementing and advancing effective teaching practices for diverse learners as part of successful and varied professional careers. CIRTL Coffee Hours are informal, discussion-based events that feature a panel of individuals sharing from their own perspectives and experiences on a topic.
