"Songs of Home" will be performed by sopranos Cathy Compton, Katharine Jenkins-Moore and Shelby VanNordstrand; mezzo-soprano Ashley Sievers; pianist Jodi Goble; and special guest artists The Music Men, an Ames vocal ensemble. Compton, Jenkins-Moore, Sievers and VanNordstrand are graduates of the ISU music department.
The hour-long program features three sets of songs without an intermission. "Missing Home" includes works that explore the idea of nostalgia and what it means to leave a familiar place for the unknown. "At Home with You" features art songs that take a more poetic approach of expressing what finding home can mean, as well as songs from Meredith Willson's Iowa-focused The Music Man. For the final set, "Home Sweet Home," the musicians have selected repertoire celebrating the joy and comfort of belonging at home.
